Maybe you planned ahead and packed a lunch, feel free to enjoy your meal in the designated picnic area. Look for demo deals on skis and snowboards at the end of the season. An exceptionally good idea for those growing kids. Georgetown Lake is lucky to have one of Montanas best family ski hills and one of the best bargains in the state. If you are interested in trying skiing or snowboarding for the season, look into the season rental option. Rental gear is available in the rental shop. Mom and dad can hone their snow IQ through the adult classes. Start your little ones in kinderski and let the older kids compete in downhill racing or freestyle competitions. There is no lodging directly at Discovery but they have worked out ski and stay lodging packages with multiple providers in town. If you are looking to fly, both the Butte airport, 50 miles away, and the Missoula airport, 100 miles away are convenient. Take a left just past the dam at the sign for Discovery Ski Basin. Continue past Philipsburg and Georgetown Lake. From Missoula, take I-90 east to Hwy 1, exit 153, east toward Philipsburg. Averaging 215 inches of snow a year, Discovery's 2,200 acres are just waiting to be explored.ĭiscovery Ski Area is located in southwestern Montana, just east of Missoula. On the front slope there are some gentler slopes, good for the medium beginner and a number of moguls for the intermediate skier. 30% of the runs are designated for experts, boasting 15 double-black diamond runs and a back face that makes some heli-skiing look meek with a vertical drop of 2,388 ft. The mountain itself is sick and not for the faint of heart or the beginner. Make sure to check out the diners, shops, and museums, an added bonus to your ski adventure. It is surrounded by three historical, blue collar towns that offer some true character. Unlike the lodges, limos and furs you find at other ski resorts, Discovery offers a different sort of experience.
